Easier than burgers, these sloppy joes come together in a flash. We've mixed traditional tastes into this plant-based protein dish – pre-chopped onions, brown sugar and savoury Worcestershire sauce. Plus, there's nothing for you to chop!

Cooking Steps

Cook plant-based protein shreds and onions

  • Before starting, preheat the broiler to high.
  • Wash and dry all produce. 
  • Heat a large non-stick pan over medium-high.
  • When the pan is hot, add half the garlic spread, then protein shreds and onions.
  • Cook for 6-8 min, tossing occasionally, until cooked through.**
Make sloppy joe filling

  • When protein shreds are cooked through, reduce heat to medium-low.
  • To the pan with protein shreds, add Applewood Smoke Spice and half the brown sugar (use all for 4 servings). Cook, stirring often, until combined.
  • Add tomato sauce base, Worcestershire sauce and 1/2 cup (3/4 cup) water. Cook for 2-3 min, stirring often, until sauce thickens slightly.
  • Remove the pan from heat. Season with salt and pepper.
Toast buns

  • Meanwhile, halve buns. Spread remaining garlic spread onto cut sides.
  • Arrange directly on the middle rack of the oven, cut-sides up.
  • Broil for 1-2 min, until golden. (TIP: Keep an eye on buns so they don't burn.)
Make salad

  • To a large bowl, add spring mix, salad topping mix and ranch dressing.
  • Season with salt and pepper, then toss just before serving.
Finish and serve

  • Divide sloppy joe filling between bottom buns, then close with top buns.
  • Divide sandwiches and salad between plates.
