Cooking Steps

  • Before starting, preheat the broiler to high. Wash and dry all produce.
  • Cut pickles into matchsticks. 
  • Thinly slice green onions
  • Peel, then grate or mince garlic.
  • Heat a large non-stick pan over medium.
  • When hot, add sesame seeds to the dry pan. Toast for 1-2 min, stirring often, until golden. (TIP: Keep your eye on them so they don't burn!) 
    Transfer to a plate.

  • Reheat the same pan over medium.
  • When hot, add pork and pre-sliced onion. 
  • Cook for 4-5 min, breaking upporkurkey into smaller pieces, until no pink remains.** Drain fat.
  • Once turkey is cooked through, add ginger-garlic puree, tomato base, vegetarian oyster sauce, half the soy sauce, and 1/4 cup (1/2 cup) water. Cook for 2-3 min, stirring often, until sauce thickens slightly.
  • Remove the pan from heat. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Meanwhile, halve buns. Spread remaining garlic spread onto cut sides.
  • Arrange directly on the middle rack of the oven, cut-sides up.
  • Broil for 1-2 min, until golden. (TIP: Keep an eye on buns so they don't burn!)

  • While buns are toasting, to a large bowl, add mayo, 1 tbsp reserved pickle liquid, salt and pepper. Stir to combine.
  • To the bowl, add cabbage and  green onion. Toss to combine.

  • Divide sloppy joe filling between bottom buns, top with pickles, coleslaw, and sesame seeds.
  • Divide remaining coleslaw between plates.
