These halloumi bites are baked to crunchy-golden perfection, then smothered in spicy honey for a sweet and savoury appetizer that will have you coming back for more.

Cooking Steps

Prep

  • Before starting, preheat the oven to 450ºF. 
  • Prepare a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Pat halloumi dry with paper towels, then cut into 1/2-inch cubes.
  • To a medium bowl, add 4 tbsp flour, then halloumi. Toss to coat.
  • To another medium bowl add panko and sesame seeds, then season with pepper. Toss to combine.
  • Crack one egg into another medium bowl, then whisk to break up the egg.
Roast halloumi

  • Add halloumi pieces to the bowl with the egg, then toss until each piece is coated.  
  • Transfer halloumi to the bowl with panko, then toss until halloumi is fully coated, pressing gently to adhere if needed. Transfer halloumi pieces to the prepared baking sheet. 
  • Drizzle halloumi with 1 tbsp oil, then roast in the middle of the oven for 14-16 minutes, flipping halfway through, until halloumi is golden. 
Make spicy honey

  • Meanwhile, to a small microwave-safe bowl, add honey and 1/2 tsp chili flakes. 
  • Microwave for 10-20 seconds until warmed through. Set aside.
Finish and serve

  • Thinly slice chives.
  • Remove halloumi from the oven and transfer to a serving plate. 
  • Drizzle spicy honey over top, then sprinkle with chives. 
  • Sprinkle any remaining chili flakes over top, if you like.
