Kid-Approved Cavatappi Noodles

with Buttery Peas and Parmesan

Who can say no to the classic combo of buttery noodles, fresh peas and creamy parmesan cheese? This pasta dish whips up in no time and is picky eater (and adult) approved for a tasty lunchtime meal.

Cooking Steps

  • Add cavatappi to the boiling water. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until tender, 8-9 min. Reserve 1/2 cup pasta water, then drain and return cavatappi to the same pot, off heat.
  • Meanwhile, peel, then cut shallot into 1/2-inch pieces.

  • Heat a large non-stick pan over medium heat. When hot, add 2 tbsp butter, then swirl until melted.
  • Add peas and shallots, then cook, stirring often, until shallots soften, 4-5 min.
  • Sprinkle cream sauce spice blend over top. Cook, stirring often, until toasted, 1 min.
  • Slowly whisk in cream, pasta water and cream cheese. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium. Cook, whisking often, until sauce thickens slightly, 1-2 min.

  • Remove from the heat and stir in half the parmesan. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add parmesan cream sauce to the pot with the cavatappi, then stir to combine.

  • Divide cavatappi noodles between bowls. 
  • Sprinkle remaining parmesan over top.
