Cooking Steps

  • Before starting, preheat the broiler to high.
  • Wash and dry all produce.
  • Pat steaks dry with paper towels. Season with salt and pepper. 
  • Heat a large non-stick pan over medium-high.
  • When hot, add 1 tbsp (2 tbsp) oil, then steaks. Pan-fry for 4-7 min per side or until cooked to desired doneness.** 
  • When steaks are done, remove from heat and transfer to a plate.
  • Loosely cover with foil and set aside to rest for 2-3 min.

  • Meanwhile, trim, then halve green beans.
  • On a foil-lined baking sheet, toss green beans with 1/2 tbsp (1 tbsp) oil on a foil-lined baking sheet.
  • Broil in the middle of the oven, 4-5 min, until tender-crisp. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Reheat the same pan (from step 1) over medium.
  • When hot, add 1/2 tbsp (1 tbsp) oil, then shallots. Cook for 1 min, stirring often, until shallots begin to soften.
  • Tomato sauce base, broth concentrate, Worchestershire sauce, soy sauce and half the espresso powder (use all for 4 servings.) Cook for 2-3 min, stirring often, until sauce thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Meanwhile, to a large microwave-safe bowl, add mashed potatoes and 2 tbsp (4 tbsp) milk. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Microwave for 3 min, uncovered, until heated through.
  • Thinly slice steak, then add any steak juices to the sauce.
  • Divide mashed potatoes and green beans between plates. Top mash with steak.
  • Spoon sauce over steak and mashed potatoes.
