Orzo FAQs
What is orzo?
Orzo is a versatile type of pasta that can be used in bakes, soups, salads and more. Its small grains resemble large grains of rice, and produce a velvety texture when cooked. Despite often being confused with rice due to its shape, orzo is a variety of pasta.
Can you cook orzo in broth or stock instead of water?
Yes, cooking orzo in broth or stock adds extra flavour to the dish. Simply replace water with vegetable, chicken or beef broth for a richer, more savoury taste.
Is orzo gluten free?
Traditional orzo is not gluten-free. If you’re looking for gluten-free orzo, you may have to head to a specialist grocery store or browse the gluten-free range in traditional stores.
How much orzo per person?
Around 100g of uncooked orzo per person is our recommended portion size. If you order an orzo recipe from us, you’ll receive the exact, pre-portioned amount of orzo needed, guaranteeing minimal food waste.
How do you store cooked orzo?
Once cooked, orzo can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days. It can also be frozen for longer storage, although the texture may slightly change when reheated.
Does orzo double in size when cooked?
Yes, orzo typically doubles in size when cooked. This is important to keep bear in mind when measuring out uncooked portions. As stated above, our recommended measurement of uncooked orzo, per person, per portion, is around 100g.
