Cooking Steps

Cook fusilli
1
  • Before starting, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil (use same for 4 servings).
  • Wash and dry all produce.
  • To the boiling water, add fusilli. Cook for 12-14 min, until tender but still firm to the bite.
  • Reserve 1/2 cup (1 cup) pasta water. Strain fusilli, then return to the pot, off heat.
Prep
2
  • While fusilli cooks, thinly slice cucumber.
  • To a large bowl, add half the vinegar (use all for 4 servings), 1/4 tsp (1/2 tsp) sugar and 1/2 tbsp (1 tbsp) oil. Season with salt and pepper. Stir to combine.
  • Place spring mix and cucumbers over top. Do not mix until step 5.
Cook beef
3
  • Heat a large non-stick pan over medium-high.
  • When hot, to the dry pan, add beef, onions, Applewood Smoke Spice and brown sugar. Cook for 4-6 min, breaking up beef into smaller pieces, until no pink remains.**
Make sloppy joe fusilli
4
  • To pan of beef, stir in broth concentrate, tomato sauce base, marinara sauce, half the reserved pasta water and 1 tbsp (2 tbsp) butter. Cook for 1-2 min, stirring often, until butter melts.
  • To pot of fusilli, add sloppy joe sauce. Stir to coat. Season with salt and pepper. (TIP: For a lighter sauce consistency, add more pasta water, 1-2 tbsp at a time.)
Finish and serve
5
  • Toss salad.
  • Divide salad and fusilli between plates.
  • Sprinkle cheese over fusilli.
