Cooking Steps

Prep

  • Before starting, preheat the oven to 450°F. Wash and dry all produce.
  • Cut tomato into 1/4-inch pieces.
  • Peel, then cut onion into 1/4-inch pieces.
  • Core, then cut pepper into 1/2-inch pieces.
Start shakshuka base

  • Heat a large non-stick pan over medium-high.
  • When hot, add 1 tbsp (2 tbsp) oil, peppers and onions. Cook, 3-4 min, stirring often until golden and tender-crisp. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add tomatoes, beans and their liquid, Smoked Paprika-Garlic Blend and half the Za'atar Spice Blend. Cook 1-2 min, stirring often, until fragrant.
Cook eggs

  • Add marinara sauce,  3/4 cup water (same for 4 servings) and 1/4 tsp (1/2 tsp) salt. Season with pepper. Stir to mix.
  • Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low.
  • Using the back of a large spoon, make 2 (4) indents in the shakshuka. (TIP: If you want to add extra eggs, make more indents.)
  • Crack an egg into each indent. Top each egg with 1/2 tbsp butter. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Cover and cook for 3-5 min, until eggs reach desired doneness.**
Finish prep and toast flatbread

  • Meanwhile, roughly chop parsley.
  • In a small bowl, combine remaining Za'atar Spice Blend and 1/2 tbsp (1 tbsp) oil. 
  • Brush za'atar oil over flatbreads. Season with salt and pepper, then arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Toast in the middle of oven for 3-5 min, until soft and golden.
Finish and serve

  • Divide shakshuka between bowls.
  • Halve za'atar spiced flatbreads and serve alongside.
  • Drizzle yogurt sauce and sprinkle parsley over top.
