Cooking Steps

Roast broccoli

  • Before starting, preheat the oven to 450°F. Wash and dry all produce.
  • Cut any larger broccoli florets into bite-sized pieces.
  • To an unlined baking sheet, add broccoli, 1 tbsp (2 tbsp) oil. Season with salt and pepper, then toss to coat. 
  • Roast in the middle of the oven 8-10 min, until golden.
  • When done, transfer to a plate and chill in the fridge until step 6.
Prep and make applewood smoke ranch sauce

  • Meanwhile, peel, core, then cut apple half the apple into 1/2-inch pieces. Cut remaining apple in 1/4-inch slices.
  • In a small bowl, combine half the ranch and half the Applewood Smoke Spice.
Form patties

  • To a medium bowl, add beef, half the panko (use all for 4 servings), remaining Applewood Smoke Spice and 1/4 tsp (1/2 tsp) salt. Season with pepper, then combine. (NOTE: Your mixture may look wet; this is normal!)
  • Form beef mixture into two 5-inch-wide patties (4 patties for 4 servings). (NOTE: In step 4, you can carefully re-shape patties when cooking if needed.)
Cook patties

  • Heat a large non-stick pan over medium.
  • When hot, add 1/2 tbsp (1 tbsp) oil and patties. Pan-fry 5-6 min per side, until cooked through.**
  • Sprinkle cheddar over patties. Cook covered for 2-3 min, until cheese has melted.
  • Transfer to a plate, then cover to keep warm.
Toast buns

  • Meanwhile, halve buns.
  • Arrange buns directly on the top rack of the oven on an unlined baking sheet, cut-sides up.
  • Toast for 3-4 min, until golden. (TIP: Keep an eye on them so they don't burn!)
Finish salad and serve

  • In a large bowl, combine broccoli, apple pieces and remaining ranch dressing. Toss to coat. 
  • Spread Applewood Smoke Ranch sauce on top buns. Stack patties and apple slices on bottom buns. Close with top buns. 
  • Divide burgers and broccoli-apple salad between plates.
