Cooking Steps

Shape pretzels

  • Add 6 cups water and baking soda to a large pot. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  • While water comes to a boil, lightly oil a clean work surface. Divide dough into 4 pieces. Use both hands to roll each piece of dough into an 18-inch-long rope.
  • Form a circle with each dough rope by bringing the two ends together. Cross the ends together to form a twist. Bring the twisted ends back down towards the bottom of the circle and press them down into the dough to form a pretzel shape.

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment. Add half the pretzels to the boiling water and cook for 30 sec.
  • Using a slotted spoon, gently remove pretzels, letting any excess liquid drip off, then place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzels.
  • Beat egg and 1 tsp water together in a small bowl.
  • Brush pretzels all over with egg wash. Sprinkle tops with a pinch of salt. Bake in the top of the oven until golden brown, 12-14 min.
Prep and make garlic butter

  • Peel, then mince or grate garlic.
  • Add 3 tbsp butter to a small, microwave-safe bowl. Stir in garlic, then season with salt and pepper. Microwave until butter melts.
Finish and serve

  • Remove pretzels from the oven and brush with garlic butter. Sprinkle Parmesan over top, then return to the top of oven for 1-2 min or until cheese is melted.
  • Transfer cheesy soft pretzels to a plate. Serve with your favourite mustard!
