Cooking Steps

Cook sausage

  • Before starting, wash and dry all produce.
  • Heat a large pot over medium-high. When hot, add 1/2 tbsp (1 tbsp) oil, then sausage. Cook for 4-5 min, breaking up sausage into smaller pieces, until no pink remains.** Season with salt and pepper. 
  • Sprinkle Cream Sauce Spice Blend over top of sausage. Cook for 30 sec, until sausage is coated.
Make sauce and cook penne

  • To the pot with sausage, add cream cheese, stock powder and 2 1/2 cups (4 1/2 cups) water.
  • Stir to combine. Bring to a boil over high.
  • Once boiling, stir in penne and reduce heat to medium.
  • Simmer uncovered for 12-14 min, stirring often to prevent sticking, until penne is tender but still firm to the bite. (TIP: If pasta sticks too much, add more water, 1/4 cup at a time. Scrape up any pieces stuck to the bottom of the pot.)
Cook broccoli

  • Meanwhile, cut broccoli into bite-sized pieces. 
  • Once penne is done, add broccoli and cream to the pot with penne. Cook for 2-4 min, stirring occasionally, until broccoli is bright green and tender. 
Finish sauce

  • Remove pot with penne from heat, then add cheddar. 
  • Season with salt and pepper. Stir for 1 min, until cheese melts.
Finish and serve

  • Divide mac and cheese between bowls.
  • Sprinkle crispy shallots over top.
