Cooking Steps

Make chocolate topping
1

Before starting, remove 2 tbsp butter from the fridge and set aside to come up to room temperature. Add 1 tbsp butter, 1 1/2 tbsp cream and half the sugar to a small pot. Cook over medium heat, whisking often, until sugar dissolves, 1-2 min. Remove the pot from heat, then add chocolate chips. Carefully stir until chocolate melts, 1 min. Set aside, still off heat, and allow chocolate mixture to cool slightly.

Make mousse
2

Meanwhile, by hand or using an electric hand mixer, cream together peanut butter, 1 tbsp butter, cream cheese and remaining sugar in a large bowl until combined and smooth, 1-2 min. Add remaining cream to the bowl with peanut butter mixture. Carefully whisk until just combined, then beat until mixture is smooth and stiff peaks form, 2-3 min.

Finish and serve
3

Divide peanut butter mousse between bowls or cups. Spoon chocolate topping over top. Sprinkle with peanuts. Place in the fridge to chill for 30-40 min before serving.

Review summary

Updated on Feb 2026
  • Flavor: Many loved the rich peanut butter and chocolate combination, though some found it overly sweet.
  • Ease of prep: Quick and simple to make, but an electric mixer is recommended for best results.
  • Suggestions: Consider reducing sugar for a less sweet version and increasing peanut butter for stronger flavor.
  • Portions: While rich and filling, some felt the servings were small; try dividing into 3-4 portions instead.
  • Texture: For smoother chocolate topping, adjust cooling time to prevent it from hardening too much.
