From the nightshade family (that also include tomatoes and zucchini), eggplant is actually a berry that thrives in hot climates and seasons and can grow in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours. However, they're most commonly known for their deep purple-black skin that you often find in supermarkets.

Can you eat eggplant raw?

Eggplant is fine to eat raw in small quantities as long as you steer clear of the leaves and flowers. Despite this, the taste of raw eggplant can be quite bitter so it is recommended you cook it up your desired way with delicious seasonings.

How to cook eggplant in a pan?

Cooking eggplant in a pan is easy. All you need to do is slice your eggplant up, season it your desired way and place it in the pan with a little bit of oil over a medium-high heat. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side and serve up with your dish.

Is eggplant a fruit?

Yes. Despite being used more typically in recipes and dishes as vegetables, eggplants are actually part of the fruit family as they grow from a flowering plant.

How to roast an eggplant

The best way to roast an eggplant is by cutting it in half or into large chunks, seasoning it generously with oil and the herbs and spices you like, then bake at a high temperature of around 240℃ for 30 minutes, making sure to flip halfway through to achieve that soft, caramelised texture.

Can you freeze eggplant?

Yes you can freeze eggplant. All you have to do is cook the eggplant your preferred way and allow it to cool completely, then place it into a freezer safe bag and pop it into the freezer. This should allow your eggplant to last up to a year.
