Sesame Pretzel Bites

These savoury pretzel bites are pillowy-soft and have just the right amount of crunch, thanks to a delicious sesame seed topping. Paired with homemade spicy sriracha dip, it's a fun appetizer everyone can enjoy!

Cooking Steps

Shape pretzel bites

  • Add 6 cups water and baking soda to a large pot. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  • While water comes to a boil, lightly oil a clean work surface. Divide dough into 4 pieces. Use both hands to roll each piece of dough into a 12-inch-long rope (TIP: If dough seems sticky, lightly oil hands). Cut each rope into 6 pieces. (NOTE: Don't worry if dough shrinks when cut into pieces.)
Finish preparing pretzel bites

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add half the pretzel bites to the boiling water and cook for 30 sec. Using a slotted spoon, gently remove pretzel bites, letting excess liquid drip off, then place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzel bites.
  • Meanwhile, add egg and 1 tsp water to a small bowl. Whisk to combine.
  • Add white and black sesame seeds, 1/4 tsp garlic powder and sea salt flakes to a small bowl, then mix to combine.
Bake pretzel bites and make dip

  • Brush pretzel bites with beaten egg mixture, then sprinkle sesame seed mixture over top. 
  • Bake in the middle of the oven until golden brown, 10-12 min.
  • Meanwhile, add cream cheese, sour cream, 1/4 tsp garlic powder and sriracha to a medium bowl. (NOTE: Reference heat guide.) Season with salt and pepper, then whisk to combine. 
Finish and serve

  • Transfer spicy siracha dip to a serving bowl.
  • Serve sesame pretzel bites with spicy sriracha dip on the side. (NOTE: Pretzel bites are best enjoyed when warm on the day they're made. Leftovers can be reheated in the microwave, if desired, but this may affect their taste and texture.)
