Empowering a generation of adventurous eaters

We’re embarking on a mission to
empower a generation of
adventurous eaters with the Fresh
Food Explorers Program, which offers
funding and support to charities
across Canada helping kids
experience, experiment with, and
learn to love fresh food.

Our mission

At HelloFresh, we believe that learning about food is as important a life skill as learning to read or
write. And we know that food education is really an education in self-confidence, literacy, math
and eating well. But learning about food takes time and patience. In fact, <a href='https://scholar.harvard.edu/caitlindaniel/publications/economic-constraints-taste-formation-and-true-cost-healthy-eating'>kids often have to try a new food up to 15 times before they develop a taste for it</a>. But what if you don’t have the luxury of letting 14
servings of broccoli go to waste?
Low-income families in Canada can lack the resources to help their kids experiment with food. Research shows that these families often minimize their risk of food waste by purchasing what
they know for certain their children will eat—often calorie-dense, nutrient-poor foods.

HelloFresh wants to help change that.


The inaugural recipient of Fresh Food Explorer Program funding was <a href="https://www.ecosociety.ca/campaign/farms-to-friends/">Farm to Friends</a>, an inspiring program run by the West Kootenay EcoSociety. When the COVID-19 pandemic made it even more challenging for vulnerable communities to access fresh food, The West Kootenay EcoSociety, in partnership with local social service agencies, identified families in the greatest need. Through the Farm to Friends program, the organization works with local farms to deliver these families fresh food baskets along with educational materials to learn more about fresh food and how best to prepare it, on a weekly basis. 

Who we work with

For a limited time, add a Fresh Food
Explorer kid’s apron to your next
HelloFresh box. All proceeds from the
sale of aprons will support the Fresh
Food Explorers Program. After all,
experimenting with food - like any
good experiment - can get messy!

Support the cause

The Fresh Food Explorers Program is
offering support to Canadian charities
that help empower a generation of
adventurous eaters. Applications are due
by November 12, 2021.
